The new brand of Salerno city

10 march 2011: Marco De Sangro, a student in engineering from Taranto participates to a competition "Un brand per Salerno", open to young designers and aimed at proposing a new logo for the city of Salerno. His logo gets the first place, and the prize (not yet paid) is 3,000 Euro. 
22 November 2011: the designer Massimo Vignelli, under request of the major of Salerno, Vincenzo de Luca, proposes a new logo for the city. The price for it is 200,000 Euro. Here are the logos:

Many citizens complained (read here for a summary), but the Major Vincenzo De Luca tells us to respect the talented geniuses, and compares the logo to the Tour Eiffel. Quite cheap to be the Tour Eiffel, uh!?
